EDC’s Full-Time Competitive program is designed for focused dancers who want to strengthen technique, deepen artistic expression and perform throughout the season.
Dancers learn to lead, collaborate, respond to feedback and work toward shared goals. EDC alumni have gone on to professional dance opportunities in Canada and the United States.

Start with a low-pressure conversation and choose either an in-person or video assessment. We’ll learn about your dancer’s background, goals and strengths, then discuss the most appropriate pathway.

Company placement considers age, experience, readiness and assessment. Age groupings may be adjusted by EDC based on the new season’s team structure.
AGES 5–7
Mini Company
A positive introduction to focused competitive training, teamwork and the excitement of performing with a company.
- Train in acro, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, lyrical and tap
- Compete with the team in all styles

AGES 7–9
Junior Company
Build versatility, confidence and performance skills through progressive training and collaborative team choreography.

Intermediate Company
Advance technical range, artistry and stage confidence through challenging multi-style training and performance.

What the Competitive Season Includes
Families receive the complete company-specific schedule and fees before accepting a team placement.
Training
Full-Time Competitive dancers train six or more hours per week. Exact classes depend on company and placement.
Team Commitment
Consistent attendance, practice and participation with the team throughout the competitive season.
Competitions
Attend and compete at four competitions involving travel within Southwestern Ontario.
Showcase & Year End
Perform at the Competitive Showcase and the Year-End Performance.
Custom Costumes
Purchase one made-to-measure custom costume for each competitive routine.
Competition Essentials
Purchase the required team jacket, accessories and makeup for performances and competitions.

Competitive Dance FAQs
Can dancers from another studio request an assessment?
Yes. EDC welcomes experienced dancers who are exploring a new competitive program in Guelph. You can begin with a low-pressure conversation, an in-person assessment or a video assessment.
Does my dancer need previous competitive experience?
Previous experience can be helpful but is not the only factor. Placement considers age, training, readiness, attitude and the dancer’s current goals.
How does a video assessment work?
Send recent footage from a solo, duet, trio or group routine. Videos from several styles are helpful because they demonstrate the dancer’s range. EDC will follow up with next steps.
How many hours do Full-Time dancers train?
Full-Time Competitive dancers train six or more hours per week. The exact schedule and required styles depend on company placement.
What costs are involved?
Families should plan for training, competitions, travel within Southwestern Ontario, custom costumes, team apparel, accessories and makeup. EDC will provide current company-specific fees before a placement is accepted.
